Biography (President – Georgia Association for Psychedelic Therapy)
William Smith, LCSW, is a trauma therapist and the President of the Georgia Association for Psychedelic Therapy, where he is committed to advancing progressive, evidence-informed, and clinically effective approaches to behavioral healthcare. He is especially focused on expanding access to modern trauma treatment and helping close gaps in Georgia’s mental health system through responsible innovation, interdisciplinary collaboration, and public-facing professional leadership.
Mr. Smith is a Georgia Licensed Clinical Social Worker and the founder and Clinical Director of several multidisciplinary practices across metro Atlanta, including Greater Atlanta Family Counseling, Atlanta Center for EMDR, Georgia Forensic Consulting, and Atlanta Marriage & Mediation Clinic. His clinical work centers on trauma, complex PTSD, anxiety, and the long-term emotional impact of adverse life experiences. He is known for integrating structured, outcome-driven therapy models that support lasting change—particularly for individuals and families navigating high stress, relational conflict, and significant life transitions.
In addition to direct clinical practice, Mr. Smith brings a strong background in systems-level thinking and leadership. He has professional legislative advocacy experience, an education in political science, and board experience spanning behavioral health and community-centered initiatives. These experiences inform his mission of helping Georgia become a regional model for innovation and access - positioning the state as a leader in the Southeast in behavioral healthcare, especially in the development of trauma-informed, ethical, and patient-centered emerging treatment models.
